Mike Coble has played guitar for over 25 years, and has played in indie garage bands in the mid 90s as well as numerous pick-up sessions through the 80s. None of these bands made it much further than the recording and rehearsal studio, but the raw spirited guitar and lyric poetry are worth a listen. Some of these indie songs are available through the gallery under the "Indie Music" pop-up menu item.
During the same period Mike studied with the Computer Music center at Columbia University and composed ambient computer music. The ambient songs are available through the gallery under the "Computer Music" pop-up menu item. These ambient songs are composed using granular synthesis techniques and digital multitrack mixing such as, Phase Vocoding, FM Synthesis, and composed using software like Csound, a sound development environment coming out of the MIT media labs under the direction of Barry Vercoe, and Cmix which is maintained at Princeton and Columbia Universities under the capable hands of Brad Garton at Columbia.
